Type and grids - workshop 3

Presentation notes:

- Construction of the grid, before you can make one is you need to know what you are making it form
- In industry you need to know exactly what the client wants before making
- In education it differs
- Start with sketches instead of working straight o the mac, for example thumbnails
- Use a sketch as a base of information to build on
- Grids are commonly made using columns
- Knowing the process is better for manipulation of your own designs to match imagery and content to
- More freedom
- Columns can be subdivided commonly used for stats and figures or articles in leaflets and newspapers
- For statistics, figures, graphs and trend line publications use 4 columns
- These can be subdivided into 8, 16..
- The width of the column dictates the size of typeface used
- For layout design don't just rely on one set

Create:
- Apply the grids to work, a mixture
- Make a concertina no littler the 5 panels and no greater than 16
- Could use content from another brief
- Put your own stamp on grids

Workshop:

During the workshop i made a concertina layout from a ten page document
