My first ever illustrator designs!
For that very reason i'm happy with the outcome, however they don't look anything special or detailed, never the less i had to start somewhere.
In fact, i think a simple strategy for the posters to say 'better late than never' through type and image works because it's straight forward and not complicated for the audience to understand. It means and is what it says.
How i started:
I sketched a running man, something simple, scanned, opened in illustrator, shaded to make a bold silhouette of a running man (stereotypical individual running to work)
i think this works as an image which a wide audience can relate to, an image of someone running, dressed for work would predictably mean - running to be on time for something (means of transport, work, an occasion)
1. Type poster
For this design i came up with a simple shaped message, 'better late than never' typed in a circular mode, left to right to signal the actions of a clock. I also added 12 glyphs (full stops) to signal the 12 hours on a clock as well as look like a delaying/postponing act.
2. Image poster
For this design i used the idea of a fire exit sign, a sign which instructs you to get from A to do B, follow the instruction and you will be able to leave a building in case of an emergency. I had an idea of splitting the proverb into sections, each word informing/ instructing. In this case a rushing running man following an arrow to a black clock face, meaning it's better to arrive late then not at all (no hands on the clock/ a set time meaning never).
3. Type + image poster
For my final design i basically added all the elements together excluding some and including some new, i thought adding hands to the clock with a later time than usual time (working off my 9.30 start to college in a morning) would seem appropriate and send the message of arriving late is better than not at all. I think over all the third poster is more understandable, and the audience can relate to it more through the use of imagery, simple designs, the colour green relating to an already existing sign, there for i'm happy with the design, however i'm unsure if the other singular posters look correct or convey the proverb effectively.
I thought it was best to display my posters in an area where they would be recognized, and would look suitable with their other surroundings.
