Collaborative - D&C/ Primary visuals

As stated in the previous post we wanted to use music as a core theme within our brief, when me and Emily went out to gather some primary research we were influenced by our surroundings to develop our ideas. Sitting in a coffee shop to make notes gave us the idea to look into interior decor and installation work. The idea of wall hangings, suspending lights and creative artwork presented on walls is a reminder of the inside of music venues or at musical events such as festivals.

To elaborate on this we thought a useful idea was to look in stores and see what types of decor they display, in addition, it was useful to look in clothes stores to capture current trends and fashion ideas. Only a few shops allowed us to take photos, so here are a few images.

Topshop

In topshop the recent and most popular clothing range is the comic girl collection, here are a few images to show how this is styled in the store.

Large stickers could be easy to make and distribute as part of an attraction piece, these aspects of design are just things to bare in mind for when we produce our own work.

Urban Outfitters

Another store that always promotes art and installation as part of their decor look is Urban Outfitters.

The cut out words that spell DENIM are a great source of inspiration as we are both keen to work with large type and perhaps use the laser cutter.

When i asked for permission to take photos of the changing room paintings the sales assitant informed me that it was a local artist who painted the wooden changing pods, her name was Sophie Primrose.

I decided to look a little into the artist but couldn't find much information on her other than a facebook and linkedin profile.

Signage is something me and Emily discussed to be part of our work, this could work in the promotional material side of things.

Illustrative work is another aspect we are keen to experiment with.

Apple Orchid

Apple Orchid is a small boutique shop in the city centre, its interior decor looks very 'bird cage' and 'vintage' inspired.

I particularly like the natural look inside the store, using object such as trees and flowers to use for suspending things such as jewellery and clothing, It adds character to the shop.
