A history of/ Bagology zine development
LOGOS
I decided to experiment a litte with logo design as the font cover of my zine will need to be branded.
ILLUSTRATIVE WORK
As my theme is to portray 'the woman and the handbag' i thought illustrating a fashionista girl would look appropriate throughout my zine.
TEXT
I found arranging and applying the text to the zine a little difficult, this is purely because i didn't plan out each page before designing.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Here is some patterns which i drew which will be applied to my zine for a running theme of handbag textures.
LAYOUT
This is my zine almost finished, i'm happy with the content, but not so much the design. It doesnt have the style that i wanted it to, never the less i will test print this to see what the outcome is.
I thought a cool idea for a spread would be to 'instagram' all the photos of my handbags i took, for this process i didn't actually instagram them, i used a photograph editor called Pixlr -o- matic which i basically instagram but for digital images.
A history of/ Handbag photo edits
I decided to use the original photographs i have took for primary research, and put them to use in the zine i am designing. The idea is to make them look quirky and vintage like by edited them on a digital version of instagram called Pixlr-o-matic.

A history of/ design ideas for products
Change of plan, after looking through my design ideas i came to the realisation that it wasn't exactly necessary for me to make a series of bags as that wouldn't reflect the information i have learnt throughout my research.
Ideas
My other idea is to still keep it creative and perhaps make miniature bags to go with each label for each given bag.
For example i will make a label for a backpack, telling the viewer what a backpack say about a person (b.a.g.o.l.o.g.y) along with a miniature made backpack which could be used as a key ring perhaps.
To make a zine about bagology, the content will inform and educate those who are unfamiliar with the psychology behind buying a handbag.
Or to make posters that could be displayed in stores and which would inform consumers about the handbag they're about to buy, and what they're current bag means and how it reflects their personality.

A history of/ Design plan of action
With the deadline approaching, i have now came to the conclusion of what my research is all in aid for and what graphic design products i intend to make. I have kept my self busy by making notes and sketching ideas.
Design Ideas
My idea is to design and make 3 different types of bags
1. A tote bag - everyday use, would appeal to most people, useful bag for carrying shopping/laptops/books.
2. A small drawstring bag - could be used for carrying makeup, stationary, accessories or even food.
3. A smaller drawstring bag - ideal for a phone/ipod pouch/smoking equipment or smaller accessories for example jewellery
Design Process
1. Use an existing tote bag as a template to work from, to get an idea of correct measurements/stitching patterns.
2. Buy fabrics to make bags from - calico for bags and leather for handle, drawstrings and label. (from fashion shop in college)
3. Measure up bags sizes
4. Design for outer bags (at least 3 sets of designs for variety/ design process)
5. Print designs ready for screen printing
6. Screen print designs
7. Assemble bag on sewing machines
8. Photograph all process
9. Letter press logo/label onto leather or print labels
Final Products
1. Photograph final products
2. Blog
3. Presentation
